Air Group 15.
24 Oct 1944
Cmdr. McCampbell, and just 1 other aircraft, intercepted a formation of 60 enemy aircraft.
McCampbell shot down 9 Japanese planes and sent the enemy flight into confusion forcing the others to flee before a single aircraft could reach the fleet.

McCampbell personally splashed 7 enemy aircraft before the enemy broke and ran.
