3rd Platoon moved through the jungle searching for Viet Cong operating in the area. During initial contact the platoon was subjected to a heavy volume of enemy gunfire and pinned down temporarily,They swiftly retaliated assaulting the Viet Cong positions, sending the enemy in retreat.
Pfc. Olive was with 4 other Paratroopers when a hand grenade landed in their midst.
Milton Olive grabbed the grenade in his hand, drew it to his belly and fell on it to absorb the blast with his body saving the lives of his brothers.
